Velankanni is a tiny town, which is situated on the shores of Bay of Bengal, and is one of the most visited pilgrim destinations, especially for Christians. The town has a beautiful beach and once the commercial centre of trade in this region, basically a port that traded with Rome and Greece.

Walk Details:

There are mainly two places to see in Velankanni, the Velankanni Church and the Velankanni beach.  The church was built in the memory of Lady of Good Health, dedicated to Virgin Mary and the Heavenly Mother, also known as the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health. It is believed that Mother Mary herself visited this place along with Jesus in 16^th century. The church reveals the Gothic style architecture and opens with masses in 8 languages.

After the church we shall take a walk along the beach, often also called as the Lourdes of the East. Number of shops lined in and around Velankani beach making it quite a different shopping experience for the travelers. Some vendors near beach sell wax replica of body parts that are meant to be offered at the church.
