Enjoy the innovations in built heritage that added a new dimension to the architecture of Delhi
Even before the world woke up to the importance of water conservation; the Sultans of Delhi integrated this ideology into their architecture and devised innovative ways and means of harvesting rain water. Baolis or step-wells were constructed throughout India during medieval times to trap rain water, but these innovative structures also doubled up as shady retreats from the city’s sweltering heat, sacred spaces and congregational points of social bustle for the people of Delhi.
Come; explore the structures that reflect this pragmatic vision of the Sultans of Delhi.
On the Baoli Tour our Culture Insider® shall take you on a comfortable journey through the city’s architectural timeline, with the focus being the step-wells of Delhi and associated anecdotes and tales behind the construction of each baoli and how step-wells today fit into the present day narrative of the city.
Locations Covered: Nizamuddin Baoli, Agrasen ki Baoli, Rajon ki Baoli, Gandhak ki Baoli, Firoz Shah Kotla Baoli.
