The village once called Kharki was renamed Fatehnagar by Ambar’s son Fateh Khan and later earned its current name after the Mughal prince Aurangzeb when he took its possession in 1653 AD. The city lies along the banks of river Kham and is famous for monuments, shrines, caves and museums. The city on a major trade route that connects India’s sea and land ports to the Deccan area which is known as the ‘Silk Route’.
