The city of Jaipur is remarkable throughout India for its fabulous forts and palaces. The city is encompassed with magnificent forts from all sides. These ancient forts of Jaipur carry the spine-tingling history of the famous Rajputs. The city which acquired its name, the Pink City, because of the extensive use of pink color on the walls during the visit of Prince Wales today attracts a huge number of tourists from all over the world specially because it is garlanded by the presence of number of beautiful monuments that echo the splendid history of the city.
Starting the walk from the city palace which was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur who was also the head of the Kachwaha Rajput clan. The palace complex, which is located northeast of the centre of the Jaipur city, incorporates an impressive and vast array of courtyards, gardens and buildings. The Chandra Mahal palace now houses a museum but the greatest part of it is still a royal residence. The palace was originally used for official purpose, but today serves as a museum. Initially, the museum was known as the Maharaja of Jaipur Museum, but was later renamed as Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum.
Next we move to a monumental astronomical observatory constructed entirely out of stone and based on the astronomical tables of the French mathematician Phillipe de la Hire. In all Sawai Jai Singh built a total of five observatories, with the largest in his hometown of Jaipur, Jantar Mantar.
And Our Last stop shall be the Hawa Mahal a building with 953 windows through which breeze flows and keeps the palace cool. This was basically a summer retreat for the royals of Jaipur and was designed by Lal Chand Usta. The building was especially erected for the royal ladies of Jaipur and it gave them a full aerial view of the activities of the local marketplace without being seen.
