Aurangabad is rich in its culture, heritage, its art and crafts. Whenever we think of Aurangabad, himroo shawls, mashroo and kimkhab weaves click on one’s mind, the silver inlay craft of Bidri ware and the well-known fine paithani silk sarees too are world famous. All these things not only relate to the rich art and craft of the region but also reflect the expertise and dedication of the artistes on their works. Many outsiders come to this city to shop these world famous crafts.
Your visit to Auarangabad is literally incomplete if you haven’t seen the Himroo work of the people here the designs and the patterns of which on these fabrics are the inspiration from the Ajanta paintings. This walk takes you to the Himroo Factory near the Zafar Gate. The traditional Himroo fabric which is a blend of cotton and silk is famous for its quality. You can also find famous Paithani saris, traditional handloom shawls and other textiles material of Himroo fabric and silver threads.
Not far from here is the tomb of Aurangzeb as ordered by him the construction of his tomb was done at the dargah of Shaikh Burhan ud-Din in Khuldabad. Several famous and esteemed saints as well as Deccani and Mughal princes have been buried here. Even though he was a great ruler but he ordered his tomb to be nothing else but a simple stone cenotaph, which was later faced with white marble.
And finally the astonishingly beautiful garden with fountains, fluted pillars & massive domes, therefore making it a wonderful history in Mughal architecture which got its name from Bani begum, Aurangezeb’s son’s wife.
