A city the history of which dates back to year 300 AD and since then has been ruled by several kings and several dynasties that left their impressions in the form of beautiful and marvelous temples. It is belived that the city once had about 1000 temples out of which about 126 remain within the city and a few more in the outskirts. Besides the spiritual side, Kanchipuram is also famous for the silk sarees which are sold all over the world.

Walk Details:

Our full day walking tour begins with visiting the temples where festivals are held throughout the year.  Starting with the Ekambareswarar Temple which was originally built by the Pallavas, and later reconstructed by the Chola and Vijaynagara kings.

Our next destination shall be Kailasanathar Temple Raja Simha, built by the father of Mahendravarman in 81st Century A.D, in the typical Pallava style, with a pyramidal tower, a pillared hall and vestibule, enclosed by a wall.

Other major temples include the Sakkiswarar Temple; built by the Chola, the Kamakshi Amman Temple, Vaikuntha Perumal Temple, an important Vishnu temple built by the Pallava King Nandivarman Pallavamalla, in the 7th century AD. Numerous inscriptions are found in the temple, relating to the wars between the Pallavas and the Chalukyas.
